However, in other occasions a dream could influence a personal life. Feelings can be a powerful tool to affect a person with their dreams. Anger, happiness, and sadness are the most influential feelings in my point of view. The majority of dreams are forgotten; They influence people to react in a certain way. For example, during class it was informed that at least 86% of people are dreaming during REM dreams hallucinations of the sleeping mind(pg 105). This dreams can be detailed so clear, that it can be confused with reality. Another essential point in discussion, was the impact Sigmund Freud had to offer. In his book The Interpretation of Dreams, he said the most valuable of all discoveries it has been my good fortune to make(pg 106). It was to his believe that dreams are a release of unacceptable feelings. Since as a child we start to have memories of things that as kids we have lived. For Sigmund Freud this was the manifest content, the apparent and remembered storyline. Rarely happens, that dreams can be remembered. This only means that the dreams that a person had, was not an important or were not familiar scenes in real life. IV. Speech Databases Once the features used for emotion detection are selected, the feature vector for a number of training data samples should be obtained. Consequently, the next important phase of building the SER system is to select the database. Prior to selecting the database, it is vital to understand the different kinds of databases available with speech percepts [4]. Datasets for speech signals that can be used for emotion detection should be tagged with a text label that denotes the category of emotion expressed in the speech. Based on the environment used for data collection, the databases can belong to one of the following categories. 1. Speech Emotion Detection Algorithms The main function of the emotion detection system is to use all the collected data and its features to identify the emotion expressed in it. To perform this a classifier algorithm can be used to create a classification model. There are several options of classification algorithms that can be used for this purpose. Some of the top choices of algorithm based on research and existing systems include Bayes classifier, Support Vector Machines (SVM), Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), Hidden Markov Models (HMM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Bayes classifier [11] is one of the oldest classification algorithm that works based on the Bayes Theorem. Medea offers him some fertility-inducing drugs in exchange for sanctuary in Athens. Role Of Religion Dr. Faustus Religion in the Legend of Dr. Faust Brad Showmaker FMS 107w 1 March 2001 Dr. Faust is a legend from the sixteenth century that tells the tale of a man that sells his sole to the devil for non-human powers. This legend is influenced by the time that it was written. During the sixteenth century religion had a large role on the society. It had affected everything from Government to everyday life for people. This story was set in the area of Europe. Which had a heavily religious influence. The Faust legend employs the notion of black magic and sorcery. This was often related to the devils work in this time due to the role of religion in society. To add to the beliefs or disbeliefs there were many tragic occurrences going on at the time like the Black plague and war and the small movement away from religion that many feel was brought on by the devil. During times of hardship many people turn to religion to help them get thought the ruff times or they push away from it in wonder why the lord could do such tragic things. Never the less the stories reach both side of the spectrum. If the people believed in the lord heavily they could put the legend in the perspective that this effect of the devil taking the weak but temptations of power that are not humanly possible. On the other hand if you feel that times are hard and you wonder why things happen to good people that follow the lord it can show how someone would fall for the devils deeds. Depression and sadness are considered during this time to be weakness that the devil tends to pick up on hoping to gather the person up to do his dirty work. During this time era writers would write stories or plays with the influence of the society in their works. So this would cause religion to be a large part of this story. In two different interpretations of the legend of Dr. Faust Christopher Marlowe and Goethe both have heavy influences of religion in their plays even thought they have differences. Christopher Marlowes, Dr. Faustus Christopher Marlowe was a well-educated man with a degree in divinity much like his story of Dr. Faustus. Which I feel gave him insight to be able to write the play. Not only did he have the degree in divinity he was thought to be an Atheist, which in this era was thought to be the work of the devil. His beliefs did not follow the norm for religion. This ended up being the cause for what many today argue was the cause of his death and that it was faked. In Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus the main character struggles with the lack of knowledge that he thinks he has, as well, the effect of all the deaths that were caused by the plaque. This troubled Dr. Faustus because he felt at one time that he had the knowledge that he could come to a medicine that would have saved the people from death. He seems to think that he has failed and has convinced himself that he has not knowledge and that he will never gain the kind of knowledge that he dreams of. Here he is weakened into turning to black magic and hoping that it will give him the knowledge that he seeks. This causes the a evil spirit named Mephostophilisto appear and try to encourage Dr. Faustus to give him twenty-four years for the powers that Dr. Faustus seeks, even thought Mephostophisto refuses to tell him the secrets of the creator the lord. The whole idea of trading his sole form powers is a concept that is introduced in the bible. In Matthews Gospel the devil offers Christ a d eal were the devil would give him all of the kingdoms in return for his suffering after death. This is the whole plot behind the story of Christopher Marlowes Dr. Faustus. Influences of religion are also shown in sodality by the fact that part of the acts happen during Easter and the resurrection which in turn brings us back to the concept of the influence

Some of us shout them out and some of us bottle them In. Whatever you choose to do is okay, as long as it helps you. Robert Frost chooses to touch on different ways of how he might react In an emotional situation in his three poems: Mending Wall, The Road Not Taken, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Each poem deals with his emotions whether It Is the barrier walls that he keeps between himself and other, the decisions he has to make or the how he chooses to deal with all of these problems. When I read these here poems, it forced me to think about my own emotions and what I would do in each of these situations. We have things that we dont want others to see. Secrets that we dont want to share, misfortunes and wrongdoings that we are too ashamed to speak about. These are only a few of the many reasons that we all keep emotional walls or barriers up. They are there for our protection, or so we think. We believe that by keeping people away, they can not hurt us. This is true, but when we push them away, what are we missing? Robert Frost contemplates this exact issue in his poem Mending Wall. The speaker in this poem doesnt know for ere whether of not he wants to keep this wall up between himself and his neighbor. Ã'ËœBefore I built a wall Id ask to know What I was walling in or walling out, And to whom I was like to give offense. He Is worried about what he will miss by keeping the wall up, yet he continues to help his neighbor rebuild It. We all have times Like this In our lives. In a perfect world we would Like to keep our walls down and let everyone In, but we cant, because we are still to scared to be able to trust each other. Emotionally, it is much easier to live and not get hurt by keeping people at a certain distance. You can stop them from coming to close. If you let them past your wall, youre letting teem Into your mina. Youre telling teem all your secrets. Telling them about your past. Youre inviting them in. This is wonderful at first, but it leaves you wide open and vulnerable. Unfortunately, this is the way I have chosen to see it. I have been hurt too many times for me to want to let anyone else in. This is not a good way to live your life, but its the only way that seems to keep me safe. Its kind of like climbing a ladder to reach a prize. The higher you climb, the closer to the prize, but you also have a much egger chance of falling. The less you climb the less chance of getting hurt. I have climbed this ladder one too many times, and each of them I have fallen off right when I reach the top. This is why I have chosen to keep my wall up; Im Just tired of falling. Making this decision wasnt easy. In fact, it is almost never easy to make an important decision. You are always stuck wondering what would have happened if you gone the other way. In Robert Frosts poem The Road Not Taken, he wonders at the difference it would have made in his life had he chosen to go down the other path. This poem is hemolytic for every important (and even the not so important) decisions you have had to make. How do you know if you have made the right decision? Is there even a right decision to make? Is each path of the same importance to your life and you Just had to choose one? Will one make you fail? While the other one make you succeed? These are all questions that Frost has brought up in The Road Not Taken. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both We have all wanted to walk down both paths, see what lies ahead, but we know that it is impossible to do so. You can never go back and change your cession. The thing that Frost has learned and that we need to remember is that there are no wrong decisions. Each path holds the same weight in how your life will turn out. In The Road Not Taken, he has decided that either path or decision is Just as good as the other: Then took the other, Just as fair, Ana navels perhaps ten netter claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. You may choose to go down one road, thinking that it is the right road, but years later you could find out that it was probably bad to make that decision. Or you could happen to make the wrong decision and find out that it has helped you in the end. I made a choice like this in tenth grade. I chose not to take the suggested math classes in order to take a few more photography and art classes. Everyone, except my parents l, believed that this was a bad decision. You need math, you dont need art. Thats what everyone said to me. They all thought I was crazy and that I was sending my life down the drain, but in fact, my decision to go ahead and take those extra art classes has probably saved the rest of my life. By taking those classes in tenth grade I was able to get the kills and credit I needed to be accepted into the Minnesota Center for Arts Education (or Arts High as we like to call it). For my senior year, I was able to go to a school that was primarily focused around the arts. Not only did my decision affect my what highlights I went to, it also effected what college I got into. From the reputation the Arts High has, I was able to get into IRIS. Who knows whether or not I could have gotten in without all the experience I had gained through the simple decision on whether or not to take a math class? As Frost says Oh, I kept the first for another day! so did l. I ended up taking those math classes that I had missed, at the Arts High. But we know that you cant ever go back, that the decision will always be different. In my case the decision was different, it was better, because at the Arts High they teach math that is geared around the arts. When you make an important decision, whether or not things go the way you wanted them to, the consequences can often leave you feeling depressed or confused. We all have ways that we take care of our problems, and one option is to get away from a an tank I Nils Is ten way Tanat Rooter Frost has chosen to deal with his problems in his mom Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. When Frost says that he is stopping Between the woods and frozen lake, The darkest evening of the year, we get the picture that whatever problems he was dealing with he was not happy about them. Frost is obviously bothered by something important. My little horse must think it queer, To stop without a farmhouse near, shows that he feels the need to go somewhere empty, somewhere alone. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. When he says But I have promises to keep, he has hoses either not to admit his problems to anyone else, or maybe he cant even admit them to himself. He admits that he has a lot more thinking to do and that he has not come to a conclusion when he states twice And miles to go before I sleep. He is speaking figuratively here that until he figures out what to do, he will not be able to get any rest. Frost probably does not actually mean sleep when he says rest, but maybe just rest in general like giving his mind a break. Many people have a very hard time thinking about anything else when they are dealing with an important issue and this is where Frost has chosen to end his poem. I do not agree with most people when they say that Robert Frost was writing about suicide with this poem. He wrote this poem to express his feelings of the need to get away for awhile, to think. This is exactly what I choose to do when I have issues and problems I need to think about. Suicide is definitely not something I have thought about when I want to be alone for awhile. I Just need to be away from distractions. Unfortunately, living in the dorms has taken away my privilege to do that. At home, I have always had the advantage of having my own room. No matter what happened, I had the option to go to my room, shut the door, and get way from everything. Now I am not so lucky. When I have had a bad day, gotten in an argument or lust even want to De alone, I nave to worry auto my roommate being there. This makes it really hard for me to deal with any problems that I might have. Dealing with your emotions is a difficult thing. Each of us has our own ways in which we choose to do so. In his three poems Mending Wall, The Road Not Taken, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, Robert Frost has Just started to touch on how he might react in different situations. Pakistan India Essay India and Pakistan have been in a dispute, which is well known around the globe. Many factors contributing to this dispute have caused much turbulence throughout their entire region. There are both similarities and differences between the two states, and just like most disputes, the differences are the ones that stand out most. In an article found, the author states â€Å"India seems to me to be a robust democracy, with a vibrant economy. It feeds its own people. Pakistan is on the verge of being a failed state, the economy is in shambles, and the country requires foreign aid to survive† (Chawla). How is it that two states are so different now, when they have only been apart for such a short period of time? When it comes to comparing the differences between India and Pakistan, the main features that stick out to me are religion, geographical size, and their military forces. While both are close in size when comparing Muslim populations, India is known as a secular nation, and Pakistan as a Muslim state. Geographically speaking, Pakistan is much smaller than India when it comes to territory of land and their population count. Pakistan used to control the area on the eastern side of India, which is now known as Bangladesh. Pakistan now entails 340,403 square miles, compared to India whose territory consists of 1,269,221 square miles. The military comparison is also one that can be used to justify the significant differences between the two states of India and Pakistan. As stated before, India is larger geographically speaking, and also when speaking of military strength. As our text states, Pakistan is a â€Å"major military force† as well as â€Å"a nuclear power† (South Asia, p. 14). But, much of Pakistan’s military equipment comes from the United States used, and is not anywhere near the strength of India’s. Although they are extremely different when it comes to their religion views and cultural life, both states share some similarities that could potentially assist them in vanishing their disagreements in the near future. Politically, they share the same views on system of government views that the war on terrorism needs to end. Both states have a President, a Prime Minister, and each sub-state within the two all have their â€Å"local† government framework systems. I believe that sharing this commonality is extremely influential in getting the two states to eventually communicate in a more beneficial and civil matter. Both states also have strong agricultural dominance when being compared with other countries. India is reliable when it comes to production of food grains, cotton, tea, and tobacco. And, Pakistan shares the agricultural dominance in that over half of its working population is involved in the agricultural industry. With India and Pakistan not being able to get along and effectively communicate with each other, it prohibits the entire country from succeeding in all areas. The development of this region needs to grow, improve, and amount to a steadier environment, and unfortunately, most of the blame for its failures is placed on the discrepancies between the states of Pakistan and India. Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy Every student is an individual, with his or her own personality and style. When teaching, I will remember and understand that students are children, not small adults. They will try my patience and understanding, then test the limits of my indulgence. My approach to teaching leans toward the essentialism. The student is there to learn what they need to know so they can become self-reliant adults. I want to be a teacher who under stands that all students have the capacity to learn. I have children of my own and though they are very different from each other as two children can be, they still love to learn what is being taught. They may learn it in different ways but they still learn and that is the important part. The nature of knowledge should be both relative and absolute. The core of knowledge is constant, but parts of knowledge is changing since the world is ever changing. Students need to know the constant knowledge of the three R’s with the ever-changing knowledge of the world of technology. The purpose of education should be to help students become well-rounded adults. Education is important in a child’s life because they have to learn to get along with other children and adults. They learn to follow certain rules, which will carry over into the work environment once they graduate. I will endeavor to instill the students in my class with a life long love of learning as well as a satisfying experience. I hope that I will be helping my students to become a better person by gaining confidence in his or her abilities. A brief discussion of the important assumptions and concepts of the theories. Florence Nightingale is the most recognized name in the field of nursing. Her work was instrumental for developing modern nursing practice, and from her first shift, she worked to ensure patients in her care had what they needed to get healthy. Her Environmental Theory changed the face of nursing to create sanitary conditions for patients to get care. Biography of Florence Nightingale Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 in Italy to a wealthy British family. She was raised in the Anglican faith, and believed the God called her to be a nurse. This call came to her in February 1837 while at Embley Park. She announced her intention to become a nurse in 1844. Her mother and sister were angry at her decision, but Nightingale stood strong. She worked hard to learn about nursing, despite society’s expectation that she become a wife and mother. In fact, she rejected a suitor because she thought it would interfere with her nursing career. In 1853, she accepted the position of superintendent at the Institute for the Care of Sick Gentlewomen in Upper Harley Street, London. She held this position until October 1854. The income given to her by her father during this time allowed her to pursue her career and still live comfortably. Though Nightingale had several important friendships with women, including a correspondence with an Irish nun named Sister Mary Clare Moore, she had little respect for women in general, and preferred friendships with powerful men. She died in 1910. Career of Florence Nightingale Nightingale is best known for her pioneering work in the field of nursing. She tended to wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. She became known as the â€Å"Lady with the Lamp† because of her night rounds. While nursing soldiers during the war, Nightingale worked to improve nutrition and conditions in the wards. Many injured soldiers were dying from illnesses separate from their injuries, such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. Nightingale made changes on the wards or started the process by calling the Sanitary Commission. Her work led to a reduction in the death rates of injured soldiers from 42% to 2%. Nightingale believed the deaths were the result of poor nutrition, inadequate supplies, and the soldiers being dramatically overworked. After collecting evidence that pointed to unsanitary conditions as a major cause of death, Nightingale worked to improve sanitation in army and civilian hospitals during peacetime. After the Crimean War, she established a nursing school at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London in 1860. The first nurses trained at this school began working in 1865 at the Liverpool Workhouse Infirmary. It was the first secular nursing school in the world, and is now part of King’s College London. Her work laid the foundation for modern nursing, and the pledge all new nurses take was named after her. Nightingale wrote Notes on Nursing (1859), which was the foundation of the curriculum for her nursing school and other nursing schools. This short text was considered the foundation of nursing education, and even sold well to the public. She also wrote Notes on Hospitals, Notes on Matters Affecting the Health, and Efficiency and Hospital Administration of the British Army. Nightingale spent the rest of her career working toward the establishment and development of nursing as a profession, paving the way for nursing in its current form. In 1883, Nightingale was given the Royal Red Cross by Queen Victoria. In 1907, she was the first woman to receive the Order of Merit. In 1908, she was given the Honorary Freedom of the City of London. International Nurses Day is celebrated on her birthday. Florence Nightingale’s Contribution to Nursing Theory: Environmental Theory Florence Nightingale is attributed with establishing the modern practice of nursing. She also contributed to the field with nursing theories still used today. One of her nursing theories is the Environmental Theory, which incorporates the patients’ surrounding environment in his or her nursing care plan. In this theory, the role of the nurse is to use the patient’s environment to help him or her recover and get back to the usual environment. The reason the patient’s environment is important is because it can affect his or her health in a positive or negative way. Some environmental factors affecting health according to Nightingale’s theory are fresh air, pure water, sufficient food and appropriate nutrition, efficient drainage, cleanliness, and light or direct sunlight. If any of these factors is lacking, it can delay the patient’s recovery. Nightingale also emphasized providing a quiet, warm environment for patients to recover in. The theory also calls for nurses to assess a patient’s dietary needs, document food intake times, and evaluate how the patient’s diet affects his or her health and recovery. The environmental factors that affect health, as identified in the theory, are: fresh air, pure water, sufficient food supplies, efficient drainage, cleanliness of the patient and environment, and light (particularly direct sunlight). If any of these areas is lacking, the patient may experience diminished health. A nurse’s role in a patient’s recovery is to alter the environment in order to gradually create the optimal conditions for the patient’s body to heal itself. In some cases, this would mean minimal noise and in other cases could mean a specific diet. All of these areas can be manipulated to help the patient meet his or her health goals and get healthy. The Environment Theory of nursing is a patient-care theory. That is, it focuses on the care of the patient rather than the nursing process, the relationship between patient and nurse, or the individual nurse. In this way, the model must be adapted to fit the needs of individual patients. The environmental factors affect different patients unique to their situations and illnesses, and the nurse must address these factors on a case-by-case basis in order to make sure the factors are altered in a way that best cares for an individual patient and his or her needs. The ten major concepts of the Environment Theory, also identified as Nightingale’s Canons, are: 1. Ventilation and warming 2. Light and noise 3. Cleanliness of the area 4. Health of houses 5. Bed and bedding 6. Personal cleanliness 7. Variety 8. Offering hope and advice 9. Food 10. Observation According to Nightingale, nursing is separate from medicine. How do you know what number means what? With place values, that’s how! If you don’t understand how decimal place values work, a number like that can look like a bunch of nonsense. In this article, we’re going to cover what place value is, why you need to know it, and how to work through place value problems to better understand large, complex numbers with ease. What Is Place Value? Let’s start with the basics. Place value refers to the meaning of a single digit in a specific position in a number. Unfortunately, that definition doesn’t make a whole lot of sense without an example, so let’s look at a number: 14. We know that number is fourteen, just as we know that 14 is the number that comes between 13 and 15. We can even break it down further- 14 is 4 more than 10. 10 + 4 = 14. Clearly, the different digits- the individual numerals that form a number- mean something. The 1 doesn’t mean 1, it means 10. That’s because the 1 in 14 is in the tens place. It tells us how many tens are in a number. So in the number 14, there is one ten and four ones- 10 + 4 = 14. If we change that 1 to a 2, we get 24, or twenty-four. The number 2 in the tens place tells us there are two tens. Each place value is 10 times larger than the place value to the right of it. So when we look at a number like 4,349,394.382, our example from earlier, we can see that there are: 4 ones 9 tens 3 hundreds 9 thousands 4 ten-thousands 3 hundred-thousands 4 millions That gives us a better idea of how to read the number aloud. It’s four million, three hundred forty-nine thousand, three hundred ninety-four. But what about all those digits to the right of the period, or decimal point? Those digits represent parts of one. Imagine this number represents the number of leaves on a particularly big tree. The .382 might represent a fraction of a leaf- perhaps one that’s been nibbled on by bugs. So how do we read those numbers? In the same way we read all the others, except the digits represent fractions of a whole. The digits to the right of a decimal point work almost exactly the same way, except there is no â€Å"ones† equivalent. Thus, paying higher attention to these problems by actively applying a wide variety of tools could help in the removal of barriers to business success, improve the bottom line and at the same time tend to the self actualization needs of the employees. Moreover, a coherent strategy in this regard would contribute to overall objectives. Transfer of Training Transfer of training is a phenomenon of persistent application of the learned behavior by the trainees in the training process to their job. This learned behavior comprises of knowledge, skills, cognitive and creative strategies. The generalization of training and the maintenance of learned skills form an important component of transfer of training. Generalization is the trainee’s potential to utilize all the skills and knowledge (verbal knowledge and motor skills) on the work related problems and situations which are somewhat similar but not completely identical to the problems and situations encountered during training. Maintenance of the learned skills is to incessantly bring into play all the newly acquired capabilities. There are several factors contributing in the whole process such as training design, trainee characteristics and work environment. Training design, as the name suggests refers to the physical characteristics of the learning environment as well as the sources utilized to train the trainee. Another ingredient, which along with training design, influences learning trainee characteristics i.e. the attitude of the training participants. Last but not the least; work environment plays a highly crucial role in determining the learning, retention and transfer of training. The execution of whatever the trainee has grasped during his training depends largely on the manager’s support, peer support, technology support and the conducive climate for transfer of training. (Carolyn, 2003) Several aspects have been recognized that manipulate the degree to which understanding gained from the training program transfers to the work. These includes factors such as, the environment at work; the qualities of the learner, etc. It has been seen that an important factor manipulating the transfer process is the degree to which the learner is given the chance of practice and provided with productive opinions from the trainer. Training on One-to-one basis can endow the trainee with this opportunity. Monitoring the employees once they get back to the work can smooth the progress of the transfer of training, particularly if the training promotes the progress and use of comprehension passed on during coaching. For transferring the training, the element of self management should also be taken into account since the trainee can be confronted with various obstacles in the work place which can thus impede the process of transfer. Other than the trainee’s ability, some outside forces also come into place. These forces may include disobliging the management and peers, time pressure, curtailment and cost cutting prevalent in many companies. These impediments make pose negative effects on the transfer weight of learned capabilities. Thus not only the learner’s own positive attitude but also the management cooperation is greatly demanded. With the ever increasing global competition, organizations are giving considerable importance to training and transfer of training. Many companies are now recognizing the value of human, social and structural knowledge in order to bring the maximum out of trainees. (Mary, 2005) Conclusion Humans are different from projects, financial matters and business activities, and thus human resource management has a unique role in the management of human capital and its needs for training and development. Human capital forms the back bone of any organization and thus the importance of a separate dedicated function to manage them is not deniable. Failure to effectively manage human capital is an indication of corporate failure itself and must be predicted, verified and rectified. There are essentially three types of resources: Physical – machinery and stock Financial – Monetary resources in any form Human – Capital to convert the other resources into profitable assets. It is essential to have a coherent and proactive human resource development function in any organizations as they help you fulfill the provision of a healthy, vibrant, ethical and intellectual human capital which uses the other resources available in the best possible manner and thus helps in the achievement of corporate objectives and goals. Human resource development needs to be part of the overall corporate strategy (SHRM) as the long term growth prospects of any company are dependent upon the quality of its labor, which can be greatly enhanced through the use of training and development.
